Achieving Solutions Around the World
From small communities in the Nepalese Himalayas, to the poorest areas of Africa’s largest cities, the Micronutrient Initiative (MI) works to ensure lifesaving and life-enhancing vitamins and minerals are where they are needed the most – the world’s most vulnerable.
Headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, MI reaches children and women in more than 70 countries around the world. With established offices and dedicated staff in a dozen countries, we actively work with local governments, health care professionals, NGOs and businesses and other key stakeholders to develop and implement sustainable live-saving programs.
Our regional office in New Delhi, India delivers programming to millions of people affected by micronutrient malnutrition in Asia. These efforts are leading to an increase in the consumption of iodized salt, vitamin A supplementation and the implementation of food fortification programs benefiting some of the region’s most marginalized populations.
In the Dakar, Senegal regional office we oversee a compilation of all MI programming in Africa to achieve the greatest possible impact for those in greatest need. This fulsome approach includes delivering programs that support salt iodization by small-scale processors, food fortification with vitamin A, iron and other nutrients, and vitamin A supplementation for children. We are also focusing our efforts on activities improve the health and survival of pregnant women and their newborns.
In addition to regional, grass-roots programs, MI is an integral part of many international networks and initiatives, allowing us to further extend our reach. Our leadership with global bodies such as the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement, the Global Alliance for Vitamin A, the Zinc Task Force and the Flour Fortification Initiative, are a fundamental part of how our reach extends for greater impact.
Through these global efforts, in collaboration with our partners and through the generous support of our donors, we touch the lives of 500 million people each year.
